2020.09.19 19:45 dbwalkerr I need some help

I'll keep this short and sweet.
I'm 17 years old, and I started investing 70% of all of my income two weeks ago. I currently have $360 saved. I put all $360 into the mutual fund TRBCX. I have not invested in any other stocks or mutual funds, 100% of my savings have gone into this mutual fund. As a side note, I can not sell anything from the mutual fund for 180 days or I will be charged a $50 fee. I trade with TDAmeritrade. Is this a smart idea? Should I be doing more with my money? If so, then what? Or should I just keep putting everything into TRBCX, or find a new mutual fund?
Thanks everyone!

2020.09.19 17:16 OnlineWithLuke Quite possibly the biggest battery gamechanger - $HPQ.V $URAGF

Now listen up, this isn't going to be the best DD you've ever seen. I'm busy.
This company used to be called Uragold Bay Resources but changed its named to HPQ Silicon Resources, after spinning out its gold division.
Here's an excerpt from their website:
HPQ Silicon Resources INC. is a TSX-V listed (Symbol HPQ) resource company that focuses on becoming a producer of nano silicon materials, and nanowires for use in silicon metal applications in diverse global market sectors.
HPQ is working with Pyrogenesis on a game changing technology. Who's Pyrogenesis? They're an advanced plasma company that has contracts with the US military and many more companies.
Now over a decade ago, there was a company named Timminco who claimed to be able to do what HPQ is seeking out to do.
Check out this stock's history:
https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/TIMNF/
It went from a penny stock all the way to $30.
The issue this company had is that they could not scale on an industrial scale.
This was the place where Timminco Ltd., until recently a little-known producer of low-grade industrial metals, said it had solved the solar industry's supply problem. Here, in Bécancour, it had developed a proprietary process to produce solar-grade silicon much more cheaply than anyone else. That promise had propelled Timminco shares from less than 30 cents to more than $22 by the end of 2007, earning it plaudits as the top-performing stock on the Toronto Stock Exchange that year. The company's market value would soon surpass $3.5-billion.
Timminco's chart alone made me invest into this company initially because it'd be incredible to be on such a ride.
The solar and battery industries are continually growing, and HPQ, like Timminco, are saying that they are able to produce solar-grade silicon at a much cheaper cost than current methods.
On a small scale, HPQ has shown that they are able to produce 2N to 4N silicon from low quality quartz metal which is incredible and will change the game forever... IF they are able to do it on an industrial scale.
There were many delays but the pilot plant is built. We have yet to hear their latest findings.
In the mean time, they have 2 NDA's signed with other companies in regards to their product. Many are hoping its Tesla. Could be, but it's not necessary for HPQ's success. Being able to convert low quality quartz into 4N silicon on a large scale will change the solar industry forever, making it much more affordable.
To finish things off, they have a partnership with a French solar company Apollon. Their latest NR suggests they will also be working on another industry:
HPQ and Apollon Solar Extend Agreement to Work on Porous Silicon for Batteries and Expand Collaboration to Include Hydrogen Production
The addition of manufacturing hydrogen by hydrolysis to our collaboration opens up a new and unique business opportunity that could represent a second multibillion-dollar addressable marketfor the PUREVAPTM Nano Silicon (Si) Reactor (“NSiR”) nanopowders.”
This isn't going to be the most organized DD because I've got shit to do. I've been holding stock in this company for years now. I'm already in the positive but I figured I'd add something to this subreddit as I keep seeing the same tickers and this one is very different.
If you want me to post another pennystock that I'm in, please let me know.

2020.09.19 16:53 Applicationdenied123 Question about an HW assignment, MS program in Financial Technology, Financial Analytics

Hey everyone, I have an assignment where I have to see if mutual funds earn positive Jensen's alpha. I have to collect information from a monthly return of 50 mutual funds for 5 years. Then download the monthly market index over the same periods from Fama-French 5 Monthly data.
So, right now. I decided that I would use the time from Jan 2015 to Jan 2020. I pulled 50 tickets from PDfetch through Yahoo finance. Just wondering if anyone can be of some assistance when using Data Exploratory Analysis to explore the overall fund performance. I have teams and Zoom and be willing to meet over one of those platforms. Also not sure how mods feel but I happily would connect with anyone via LinkedIn as well.
Thanks in advance. :)

2020.09.19 15:22 coolcomfort123 Netflix cancellations surge 'materially' in the wake of 'Cuties' controversy, data shows

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/netflix-cancellations-surge-following-cuties-controversy-data-shows-114312558.html
According to subscription analytics firm Antenna, Netflix cancellations surged 5x the normal amount following the release of “Cuties.”
Meanwhile, Data analytics firm YipitData reported a similar trend, with the company telling Yahoo Finance that Netflix’s U.S. churn “rose materially” last weekend in the wake of the controversy. As of last Saturday, disconnects were running at nearly 8x the daily levels observed in August — a multi-year high, YipitData added.
Still, despite the downbeat data, the cancellations should not have much of a lasting impact on Netflix’s overall subscriber base. The platform has well over 182 million users worldwide and is the clear leader in the competitive streaming space — regardless of its recent controversies.

2020.09.19 15:00 autotldr Jobless claims: Another 860,000 Americans filed new unemployment claims last week

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 63%. (I'm a bot)
The ranks of jobless Americans grew yet again last week, with 860,000 first-time unemployment benefits filed last week, rising slightly from the prior week's level and reaffirming that a relatively robust U.S. recovery is losing momentum.
Initial jobless claims, week ended Sept. 12: 860,000 vs 850,000 expected, and 884,000 during the prior week.
Thursday's figure represented the third consecutive week that new jobless claims remained below the psychologically important 1 million level, yet they remain within historically high levels triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic.
While claims held steady on a seasonally adjusted basis last week, unadjusted claims actually rose by more than 20,000, or 2.4%, last week to over 857,000, led by an outsized pop in new claims in California.
Continuing jobless claims, which are reported on a one-week lag and capture the number of individuals still receiving unemployment benefits, rose for the first time since mid-July last week to more than 13.3 million.
The total number of workers applying for unemployment benefits from all programs increased for a second consecutive week to 29.6 million claims as of the latest data, which covered the week ending August 22.
